He has led and delivered automation solutions across multiple organisations, focusing on improving efficiency, reducing manual workload, and enhancing reporting accuracy through structured Excel-based systems.

His work includes developing Excel and VBA frameworks for risk management, financial reporting, valuation and data processing, often replicating the logic of larger system-driven environments within Excel.

He holds a degree in Actuarial Science from City University, London and has completed both the CFA and FRM exams. In many organizations, Excel remains one of the most important tools for reporting, analysis, reconciliations, data processing, and day-to-day operational tasks. However, many of these processes are still performed manually, making them time-consuming, repetitive, and vulnerable to error.

This course helps participants move from manual Excel work to structured and automated workflows. Participants will learn how to analyse an Excel-based process, organize data more effectively, identify repetitive steps, and convert those steps into a more reliable automated solution.

The programme is structured around five key areas:

Participants will be introduced to Excel’s built-in automation features. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Claude now help users describe what they want to automate in plain language, generate and refine automation logic, troubleshoot issues, and improve the reliability of automated workflows.

By combining structured Excel design, automation logic, VBA-supported macros, and AI tools, participants will learn how to build practical solutions that reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and make Excel-based processes faster, more reliable, and easier to maintain.

This course is designed for professionals who regularly use Excel for reporting, analysis, reconciliations, or data processing and want to improve efficiency through automation. No prior programming experience is required.

Course CONTENT

1.Understanding Data Structures and Data Flow in systems

This section introduces participants to how data is structured and flows within business systems, from user input to system processing and final reporting outputs.

2.Introduction to Excel Automation and Automation Logic

This section introduces participants to Excel’s built-in automation environment, including the Developer Tab, macros, and the VBA Editor.

3.Using AI Tools for Excel Automation

This section introduces participants to AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude, with a focus on how they can support practical Excel automation tasks. Participants will learn how to communicate clearly with AI tools, describe automation requirements in plain language, and use effective prompts to generate, explain, refine, and troubleshooting automation logic. The section also demonstrates simple practical examples, showing how AI can help users move from a manual Excel task to an automated solution.

4. Lifecycle of an Automated Solution

This section provides participants with a structured approach to building automation solutions from business requirement through to final implementation.

5. From Manual Excel Processes to Automated Solutions

Participants will first be presented with a manual Excel process and guided to analyse the problem, identify repetitive steps, and discuss how the process could be improved. The trainer will then build the automation step by step, showing how to structure the workbook into clear areas for inputs, raw data, processing, calculations, and outputs.

Participants will also see how AI tools can support the development process, including generating automation logic, refining VBA-supported macros, troubleshooting issues, and improving the final solution. They will then apply the same approach to a separate practical exercise, working through workbook design, data preparation, automation logic, output generation, testing, and exception handling.

The section will also include examples of more advanced automation solutions developed for real business environments. Using screenshots and walkthroughs, participants will see how complex manual processes can be redesigned into structured Excel-based automation systems. This will help them understand the wider potential of Excel automation and identify opportunities to improve processes within their own day-to-day work.
